Lunch Special at South Ocean Chinese Restaurant
A trip to the South Ocean Chinese Restaurant for work lunch was a really unusual thing for us to do, since we usually ventured to either G-Fun, Kitchen Inn or North Lake Chinese BBQ. Since they offer a cheap lunch special with meals under $10, we decided to give it a go. Their chef’s special is $1 cheaper which brings the total cost to $8.50 per meal when compared to the normal lunch menu of $9.50.
We had a good experience for dinner time in the past and hoping that lunch meals would be as good as well. I went with another 2 friends on this occasion. The service was really efficient as we were shown to our table straight away and the lady boss had a small chat with my friend when he was ordering the food.
We chose the combination roast and BBQ pork with rice, Thai style chicken with fried rice, and Singapore chow mien.
Unfortunately I chose the wrong dish as I was really unhappy with both roast and BBQ pork. Both meats were really dry and chewy.
Thai style chicken was tasty with the sweet sauce covering each chicken piece. The fried rice was a bit dry, didn't seem fresh and the portion was quite small.
The Singapore chow mien was probably the best looking dish of all three but in terms of taste it was a bit bland. The noodle was bouncy and for a lunch special it contained a lot of different meat in it, from pork, chicken and prawns.
I will give it another try next time although it might be a bit hard with other better options around the area.
