Rice Noodle House, Shelley

I am always on the lookout for a good chicken rice place and when my friend informed me about the 'Marjorie Chicken Rice', I was really excited. We went there on one Wednesday night but the restaurant was closed. Their operating time for dinner was between 5:30-8:30 PM Thursday to Saturday, so we went to Kahmon instead and decided to try the Rice Noodle House the next day.

A group of four went back the next day in an anticipation of eating one of the best chicken rice in Perth. We came around 6PM to make it easier for us to find a spot. All of us ordered Hainan chicken rice with steamed thigh as well as two side dishes of fried chicken and 5 pcs dumpling soup. I was going to order the $18 dumpling soup with 10 pieces in it until my friend inquired after the size of the dumpling, which turned out to be quite huge.

$9.50 Dumpling soup (5 pieces)

The dumpling soup was quite big, but it lacked a bit of taste and we had better elsewhere.

$11 Fried Chicken (8-10 pieces).

We snacked on the fried chicken pieces while we were waiting for our main meal. The crumbs were really tasty and the chicken meat were tender. We finished it really quickly and wishing that we ordered another one.

Everyone was really excited when the staff put down the Hainan Chicken Rice on the table. Looking at the fragrant mountain of rice, the dish could be shared between two people. Unfortunately the springy and tender chicken strips were quite small in portion, especially in contrast to the amount of rice that was served. The sauce for the chicken rice was good but I'd like to get more taste of the garlic and ginger on the chicken.

We went out of the restaurant as soon as we finished because there were two families queuing outside of the restaurant. Next time we'll be back to try their nasi lemak and order the fried chicken for our side dish!
