Dejavu Tapas Restaurant, William St (Invited)

I was contacted by two people on Instagram who asked about a restaurant that offered vegetarian or vegan food. They heard that Dejavu was one of the good ones and they were looking for more options. Unfortunately I wasn't that familiar with vegetarian restaurants other than Annalakshmi. Their questions made me curious about what Dejavu is like. Not long after that conversation, we were invited by Dan, the restaurant manager from Dejavu (it must be fate haha).

Dejavu was located on the second storey of what used to be The Grid Pizza Bar and Dan informed me that they're planning to open the rooftop area for breakfast and dinner. I think Lucky Chan's will have a good competition on William St.

The menu at Dejavu was quite cheeky and caters to both vegan and carnivores. Dan asked whether we had any food allergies and he mentioned that Dejavu able to cater to people with various dietary restrictions. This was really good to hear and definitely gives a more personalised service to customers (yes, you are not just another number) ;-).

Our platters contained different varieties of food on offer at Dejavu. As a carnivore, it was really surprising to hear Hubby's high praise to all the food that they served. Hubby was also the one that mentioned that we should go back to Dejavu with some other friends soon. Our favourite sliders were rosemary sliders with BBQ shredded jackfruit and charcoal sliders with blackened tempeh. The tempeh slider had delicious kaffir lime chilli sambal, I wish they sold the sambal in a take home jar.

We ordered an elixir and special cocktail (non alcoholic) that was really good. Hubby enjoyed his magical lemonade which changed colour from blue to purple. I think it was a similar concept to the cocktail that we had at Dusit Dheva. I also enjoyed my quirky elixir: Chalice of Love. It was a combination of damiana extract, cranberry juice, lemon, soda and edible flowers. There was an option to add Hibiscus Vodka into this drink if you are keen to do so.

Soft and warm on the inside!

One item that you definitely have to order at Dejavu is the 'best garlic bread ever' (the menu says so ;-)). It was basically a cheesy garlic rosemary damper, the texture was quite similar to scone bread and very savoury.

We ended our night with a trio of desserts that we shared between the two of us. Hubby really enjoyed his coconut mango pearl but I preferred the refreshing strawberry pistachio crumble or definitely spiced creme brulee for the autumn - winter season!

We had a great experience at Dejavu and we were seated at the corner table where we could see a lot of passerby walking around at William St downstairs. If you're in a small group it would be a good idea to ask for this particular spot to get the city view.

Even though Dejavu is well known as a vegetarian restaurant, it's a good hang out place if you're a carnivore as well (get some chicken skewers and lamb kimchi paper rolls). The staff were friendly and the venue was cozy. It's definitely worth the try and visit if you haven't done so.
