Venus Banquet at Phill Bean, Shelley

I wanted to try Phill Bean for quite some time especially after receiving some suggestions from some friends. So one night Hubby and I embarked on our journey to find this hidden suburban gem before our badminton game, which was conveniently located at the Shelley Hub.

The restaurant was quite empty when we arrived at 6PM and straight away I read some menus that they had on the wall. They offered three different banquets that can be shared between two people as stated on the menu. We chose the Venus banquet that costs $35 per person for bottomless green tea, a small portion of short ribs, 3 starters, 2 soups, 1 cooked meat and 1 noodle.

Kimchi pancake

The staff was very friendly and we didn’t wait long for our food at all. The Kimchi pancake was crispy on the outside and steamed pork dumpling was really easy to eat.

Left: Yukgaejang, Right: Haemul Sundubu Jjigae

As for the soup, their robust Yukgaejang broth (spicy beef soup) was very tasty and spicy. However I found chunky pieces of beef instead of the shredded beef that is usually served in authentic Yukgaejang. The flavourful Haemul Sundubu Jjigae (seafood and tofu soup) was filled with different seafood with generous amount of mussels in it.

Spicy Pork Bulgogi... yum!

The portion of the spicy pork bulgogi was really good and it was well marinated with spicy sauce.

We ended up sacrificing some of our steam rice so we could finish other dishes. I definitely think Phill Bean has a really good price tag for their Korean food banquets menu and the 2 people banquets can easily be shared between 3-4 people.

It was a really good banquet and the generous portions definitely surprised us, but definitely a bad idea to eat such a huge meal before playing badminton. Next time I will go back for another enjoyable meal at Phill Bean! Jalmukesumneda!
