Baker et Chef, South Perth
Baker et Chef is a restaurant that’s located at the corner of Mill Point Road and Banksia Trc. There are limited parking spots available on the street, but they also have undercover parking behind the restaurant.
In the morning there are a lot of freshly made loaves available in creative combination, such as olive and walnut, or apricot, rosemary and poppyseed. Their sourdough is different from what I expected, because of the hard crust. I was informed later on that it's following European style of bread with its crunchy crust and chewy interior.
BREAKFAST AT BAKER ET CHEF:
Shannon and I ordered Grilled Meat Kabobs from Baker et Chef's weekly special menu. I was so impressed with the presentation. The rice cake was topped with kimchi, enveloped with pork and beef mince, and served slaw in spicy red pepper and sesame dressing. The taste was remarkable because you get to taste the sour, spicy, as well as salty flavour at the same time.
We chose Mushrooms 4 Ways and Eggs Benedict for our meal. Mushrooms 4 Ways is so delish and will be perfect for all mushroom lovers. The dish combines delicious tempura fried Enoki, 3-hr long braised Shimeji, grilled Shiitake, sauteed button mushrooms with baby spinach, and sous-vide egg. There's a slice of Baker's bread accompanying all mushrooms.
The special ingredient in the Eggs Benedict is the house-cured and house-smoked whiskey salmon. The salmon was smoked with wood chips in the kitchen, and I applauded the effort of Mr Chef for doing so.
It wouldn't be right to leave Baker et Chef without trying their desserts. Ms Baker was working in France for 2 years, and her desserts look so beautiful. Each dessert was named after Baker et Chef's staff members. The colour and ingredients were made to match their personality too.
I don't have a sweet tooth, and I usually avoid dessert if I can. I told Mr Chef about my difficulty in choosing the dessert. He suggested Shine, which is a combination of white and milk chocolate, Earl Grey, and passionfruit. Another one that he suggested was Calvin. Calvin is a combination of basil, yuzu, raspberry, and meringue. Both were perfect for me! Calvin and Shine are light and refreshing to have after our breakfast.
Ms Baker prepared a box filled with one Kouign-Amann, one almond croissant, and one strawberry croissant to be enjoyed later on. I can tell you that each was really delicious, especially the strawberry croissant with strawberry filling. That one was definitely refreshing.
Breakfast service is available from 8 AM to 2:30 PM, while lunch dishes will only be available from 11:30 AM. The staff told me that Soft Shell Crab Burger is among customers favourite. Maybe next time I will go and try it! :-D Don't miss out on Baker et Chef if you like delicious savoury food and great desserts.
