Francoforte Spaghetti Bar

First time I tried Francoforte Spaghetti Bar was more than a year ago for their beautiful Squid in Vino and last weekend hubby had a craving for their spaghetti. We arrived there about 5:30PM for an early dinner and was happy to see that there were only a few patrons there. We shared the premise with two families with kids, a guy who ordered takeaway spaghetti and a young couple.

The menu follows a really good method with a short selection of well-executed spaghetti dishes, accompanied by desserts, drinks and extras dishes. The price was reasonable with the spaghetti dishes costing from $15-22.  While it may not seem like it at first, the grande size was quite filling. If you’re hungry, ordering a portion of grande pasta is more than enough.

Guanciale Carbonara - Grande

We started with some bread and dips while waiting for our main meals. The guanciale carbonara hit every note with the depth of flavour that wasn’t overly salty. The dish was served with just enough amount of Sardinian Pecorino and the guanciale was crispy. It was so easy to eat that I wished I had ordered an extra $5 for the extra cured pigs cheek.

Kangaroo Bolognese - Grande

Another dish that we ordered was Kangaroo Bolognese. The dish consisted of minced kangaroo rump and pork mixed together with onion, tomato carrot and Grana Padano parmesan cheese. I ordered extra parmesan to be mixed together with my Bolognese but shortly after my first bite I realised that I didn’t have to order extra parmesan at all. The meal was cooked in a good balance.

Being situated in the alleyway, noise wasn’t a problem at all even when the restaurant was bustling. Tap or sparkling water were the two choices that we received a minute or two after we sat down. Service throughout the night was top-notch and if I can say it was subtle-yet-sharp for a casual restaurant. Francoforte does laid-back quite well with the flattering lights and minimalistic decoration. I like how there’s a bar where solo diner can feel comfortable eating their meal alone.

As a provider of good spaghetti, I think Francoforte has fulfilled their mission!
